Item Description...
Product Description In the last place she ever imagined she'd be, Gabby will discover what she's made of--and for.
Gabrielle Fairbanks knew her husband was upset with her. But she never expected him to change the locks on their Chicago penthouse, cancel her credit cards, and disappear with their two boys. Now she's literally on the streets with her elderly mother, her mom's dog...and $220 to her name.
Thank goodness she has somewhere to go--Manna House, the women's shelter where she works. But even in the bustling shelter--surrounded by residents and the Yada Yada Prayer Group--Gabby feels more alone than ever. She longs for someone she can really talk to, someone to help mend together the pieces of her broken life. Her warm-hearted lawyer seems ready to offer more than legal counsel...but is he the answer to prayer or just a pleasant distraction?
As her fragile plans fall apart, Gabby hits on a possibility so wild and wonderful it has to be one of those "God things." Something she's only seen happen to other Christians. Until now.
For everyone who loves the best-selling Yada Yada Prayer Group novels...The Yada Yada House of Hope series features familiar faces and places, with a fresh new life all its own.

I found myself starting Liparulo's Dreamhouse Kings series with book 3, "Gatekeepers." And even though the author warns us not to read this one without first reading the two previous books, I found out that there are enough references within the third book to give me a good idea of what the King family have gone through so far. In "Gatekeepers," Jim Taksidian, has managed to bribe the authorities into evicting the Kings from the old Victorian house they had moved into just a couple of days ago. While Ed King spends the night in jail, his three children (Alexander, David and Victoria) are left to hold the fort. They can't allow either the police or Taksidian to take them away from the house until they rescue their mother who has been kidnapped by a being from one of the worlds behind the portals. The house is not just a building. It is the gate to Time. On its third floor, there are 20 rooms; each of them is a portal to a different period in history. "Gatekeepers" is a fast-paced, action-packed and easy-to- read adventure book. The King children must manage one escape after another as both the house, which has a will of its own, and Taksidian constantly loom threateningly over their shoulders. The characters' actions are all well described--so well, that at times I thought I was reading a screenplay. Xander, David and Toria get into so many adventures within one day that I, curiously, grew a bit tired of all the running, shooting, chasing and punching. However, I found those rare quiet moments between Jesse (a wheelchair-bound old man) and David touching and enlightening. In "Gatekeepers" a few mysteries are revealed and a couple more questions are posed. The book has no closure but instead ends in a number of cliffhangers. Young readers who like action and suspense will find Liparulo's "Gatekeepers" a definite page-turner. Enjoy!

Because this book is the third in an ongoing series, I bought the first two volumes to read in preparation for reading "Gatekeepers". And I am very glad I did! (Fortunately, the first two books are available in Kindle editions, so I could start reading immediately while waiting for the third book to ship!)
The story takes place in a large Victorian styled home Hidden away in the back of the third floor are about a dozen rooms which are actually time portals. The occupants of the house find that they can step through the portals into various periods in the past. And there are usually violent events going on when they get there!
In the first book, the mother had been kidnapped and taken through one of the portals, and the other family members begin their perilous attempts to find their her.
Most of the third book switches between the viewpoints of the two brothers, as they struggle to understand the underlying rules that govern the portals, as well as overcoming their fears in the face of extreme adversity (both at home and in the eras they are sent to each time they step through a portal).
I found this series to be very imaginative and enjoyable to read. It was a true page turner, which I found very hard to put down. Please be forewarned that none of the books end with any finality! If anything, each book just kept picking up momentum until you reach the final page, knowing full well that the story is most definitely not going to end.
And when is the next book going to come out so that I can buy it right away? LOL!
I highly recommend this book. The two previous books in the series ("House of Dark Shadows" and "Watcher in the Woods") are required reading first, because these are not standalone stories! | | | | must read Feb 24, 2009 |
| Even though fantasy is not my genre of choice, and even though this is Juvenile fiction (and I am very old) and even though the book suggests that the first two novels in the series should be read first (and I had not read either of them) I LOVED THIS BOOK! I know it makes no sense other than it's a compelling story with believable characters, told in a page-turning fashion. What a thriller! My only objection is that there is no conclusion. The book simply stops and leaves the reader panting for the next volume in this series. I can't wait to get my hands on that next book! | | | | Exciting worthwhile book....even though I haven't read the first 2 Feb 17, 2009 |
| Gatekeepers was a great read. In fact its one of the better reads I have had over the past year. Its too bad though that it is the 3rd book in the series. However, that being said don't worry too much about it if all you have is this one because i got by just fine and loved it.(I will however be picking up the first two soon) I highly recommend this book...if your looking at it then you must be interested...so do yourself a favor and pick it up. | | | | The King family mystery continues Feb 17, 2009 |
Liparulo introduces new characters into this fascinating mystery and along with that it deepens the mystery of the dreamhouse.
The story continues seamlessly from the second book. The author maintains the same high standards that he started the series with.
Even though labeled as juvenile fiction, the author's character development along with the twists and turns of the plot makes this a good read for adults.
I find the books are easy but exciting reads and I view them as the dessert after my more serious historical readings. | | | Write your own review about Who Do I Talk To? (Yada Yada House Of Hope V2)
