Product Description
Cheerio, Sisterchicks!

SISTERCHICK n: a friend who shares the deepest wonders of your heart, loves you like a sister, and provides a reality check when you're being a brat.

Two midlife mamas hop over to jolly ole England and encounter so much more than the usual tourist stops. Liz does have a bit of a childhood crush on Big Ben, and she has hoped to "meet" him ever since her fifteenth birthday. Kellie dreams of starting an interior design business and figures Liz needs to be a part of that equation--a calculation that hasn't added up for Liz yet.

Nothing on the excursion goes the way these two friends had envisioned. They start with a village pancake race and end up being held for questioning on The Underground. Kellie and Liz take a wild tour through the land of C. S. Lewis and J. R. R. Tolkien and then find themselves swept up, up, and away in a hot air balloon over the Cotswalds. London beckons with the Tower of London, Windsor Castle, shopping at Portabella Road in Knotting Hill, and of course, reservations at the Ritz for a posh high tea.

A few detours along the way and the possibility of being lost in a London fog of wonderment aren't enough to stop these two Sisterchicks! Each step of their regal journey is lined with evidence of God's gracious compassion, and both come to realize that God knows their every wish. He is the One who planted every dream in their hearts.

And, oh, what a surprise awaits them when they return home!

"A Series of Adventures for Two Moms" 4 stars
Opal is my favorite character in this book. She is a wacky 70-something woman who tells Elizabeth, who is in her 50's, to take chances. Liz had a dream to see England. Her childhood friend, Kellie, had a dream to have her own interior design company. They set off to tend to their dreams.
This book is made up of many small anecdotes. This makes for quick, enjoyable reading. Gunn writes with an understated humor and a keen sense of character development.
This easy-breezy book is one to read and recommend. All mid-life mothers will see the humor in it.

Sisterchicks Go Brit!  Sep 17, 2008
I loved this book as much as ALL the rest of the Sisterchick books I have read. I felt like I was in England with them and all their adventures and twists and turns in the plot were great. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes fun and adventure. As I said before I've read all the books in this series and hope Robin Jones Gunn writes more.

A Light-Hearted Read, Brit Style  Aug 4, 2008
"The nicest gift a woman can give herself is to take risks," Robin Jones Gunn writes in her latest novel, Sisterchicks Go Brit. In this story, middle-aged friends Kellie and Liz go on the adventure of a lifetime and do more than explore Great Britain; they also discover their faith, friendship, and personal dreams.

Sisterchicks Go Brit is a light read with a nice message: You're never too old to make the most of your life, and you won't know what you're missing if you never try new things. The characters are enjoyable and easy to relate to. The plot is lighthearted and fun, though I thought there was too much detail in the sightseeing episodes. This is the first of Gunn's novels I've read, and I wouldn't hesitate to pick up another when I'm next in the mood for a beach read.

Big Ben, Hot Air Balloons and Pancake Races!  Jul 16, 2008
Liz has dreamed of going to England and meeting Big Ben since she was 15 years old. Kellie has long dreamed of opening her own interior design business. These two best friends have both of their dreams fulfilled through Opal, an elderly woman's, machinations. Opal wants to return to her native England to visit her twin sister Rose and after being thrilled with Kellie and Liz's renovation on her apartment, gifts them tickets to go along with her. Gunn's Sisterchick books are wonderful travelogues with lessons on faith and friendship on the way. This book didn't have the kind of depth I've become accustomed to in previous books in the series, but Gunn's description of England makes me want to book my flight out today!

All in all, a fun and easy, take-to-the-beach kind of book with likable characters and fascinating settings   Jul 14, 2008
"Elizabeth, my dear, do you know what the dearest kindness is that a woman can offer herself in the autumn of her years?"

I shook my head.

"It is the gift of giving herself permission to take risks."

And then she winked at me.

That's when I realized that a hibernating dream or a dormant wish must be ushered out of its cavelike sleeping chambers and nudged right up to the cliff's edge into nothing but untamed air. In that risk-taking moment, the wish might just discover its wings and fly. I've seen it happen.

And so begins an adventure abroad for lifelong friends Kelly and Liz, the protagonists of the newest title in Robin Jones Gunn's award-winning Sisterchicks series. In SISTERCHICKS GO BRIT!, three women with unfulfilled dreams and wishes take off for England, unaware that their little trip will lead them to some life-changing decisions. Along the way, Kelly and Liz tour many well-known attractions in London and Oxford while taking a few unexpected excursions. Their experiences provide a great travel guide to England, rich in imagery and embedded in a fun, light read. As their journey takes on a life of its own, Kelly and Liz see God's hand in every twist and turn.

Liz and Kelly, both in their mid 50s, unexpectedly meet Opal, an aged and tiny British woman who has a huge impact on their lives. When Opal hires them to redecorate her apartment, the three quickly form a friendship that leads to weekly tea times. Upon completion of the decorating job, Opal surprises them with plane tickets to England...and the announcement that she will accompany them. Liz and Kelly's heads are filled with grand images of touring London after escorting Opal to her twin sister's house in the small town of Olney. However, their carefully planned trip starts unraveling before they even leave Heathrow Airport, as a quirky old man arrives on the scene who puts a twinkle in Opal's eyes.

Bound and determined to check in at their London hotel before sundown, the two friends are duped into spending the night in Olney, then stay on for the traditional Shrove Tuesday pancake race. Finally it's on to London, but again their plans are foiled and they spend the night in Oxford, where Liz stumbles across a Bible verse while visiting the Exeter Chapel. The words come back to her again and again throughout her vacation as she learns to trust in God, seek His guidance and see His fingerprints on her life. While Liz grows spiritually, she also gains confidence and overcomes her tendency to shy away from anything new or different. Her mind slowly embraces the notion that sometimes going with the flow means letting God take the reins.

After a crazy cab tour through the land of C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien, and a hot-air balloon ride over the Cotswolds, they finally succeed in reaching their main destination. From high tea at the Ritz to the Tower of London and a side trip to Windsor Castle, the friends are awed by the sights, sounds and tastes that are London. Liz's obsession with seeing Big Ben and her love of British literature is brought to light when she discloses a long-kept secret to Kelly --- an event in her teen years that permanently influenced certain aspects of her life. Her final wish comes true when they set off for Westminster Abbey, where she sees her beloved Big Ben, then visits Poet's Corner. It is here, amidst the burial sites and memorials for authors who filled her with hope during a trying time, that Liz feels God reminding her of His faithfulness.

As Liz views the journey with the eyes of one who loves British literature, Kelly sees England from an artist's perspective. Bent on starting her own interior design business, she often points out interesting details in the fabrics, colors and furniture they encounter.

Liz and Kelly's delightful adventures continue as they leave England and arrive home to find that God has a few more surprises in store for them. All in all, SISTERCHICKS GO BRIT! is a fun and easy, take-to-the-beach kind of book with the likable characters and fascinating settings that make this series so popular.
