Item Description...
Product Description Annie Warren always wanted the best for her son, Josh. But years of failure and bad choices created a heartbreaking distance that has grown far worse since the day Josh was hit by a drunk driver. Now on medical disability, Josh has put his life on hold for years, waiting for the insurance company to send a settlement that never seems to come. Worse, he believes the story of a scheming woman who claims they have a seven-year-old daughter named Savannah. Despite the unlikelihood and complete lack of evidence, Josh dreams of being a father and is determined to one day claim the child. His family doesn't know the full story. They don't know what happened the night of the accident that was worth the chronic pain Josh suffers every waking minute, or that he is turning his life around. They haven't seen that Savannah's eyes are his, and they don't know how desperately the little girl needs her family. When the settlement that rightly belongs to Josh is threatened, Annie sets out to defend her son. But she might find a treasure more valuable than money, one she never expected, one that is the greatest gift her son could ever give her--THIS SIDE OF HEAVEN.

| The whole time I was reading this book, I was putting myself in the adoptive parents place...what would I do if I where in that situation? It is a heartwrenching story and I had to keep my box of tissues nearby while reading it! | | | | GREAT BOOK! Feb 12, 2010 |
| xcellent book! I finished in one day and raved to my friends that they just had to read it! | | | | Not bad, but kind of sad... Nov 27, 2009 |
If you haven't already, it would help to read the Cody Gunner series before reading "This Side of Heaven." But it is not absolutely necessary. In this book, Karen Kingsbury uses a plot device she has used before: an adorable child, living in a bad situation, longing to find her missing parent. Her father does want to find his daughter, but he is being prevented from doing so. There is a death partially through "This Side of Heaven" that caught me very much by surprise. But before long, I could guess how the story was going to end. The evil character in the book gets what is deserved in the end. The messages I took away from "This Side of Heaven" were: One can lose his or her faith but later have it restored, and second, Don't judge someone else without knowing all the facts. | | | | A must read book!! | This is the first Karen Kingsbury book I have read and I loved it!!! Can't wait to read the rest of her books! | | | | way too sad and depressing, but one good point Oct 12, 2009 |
This is the first book I have read by this author and I was not impressed enough with it to ever read any more by her. There is one good thing about this story: During at least the first half and possibly even longer I kept asking myself, "what is the point here?". Well, I finally realized what it was--it is an excellent one. Parents should accept what their adult children decide to do with their lives and always be open to finding out what they are actually doing. Beware of closing the door of communication. This is the only good thing I took away from this sad and depressing read. It contained way too much preaching! I have known many Christians during my life and very few, if any, get instant replies back from God when asking Him questions. This aspect of the story is so unrealistic that I could not believe it.
After reading the note in the back I could understand a little better why she wrote it. And I certainly do feel bad for what her family experienced in a very personal way. | | | Write your own review about This Side Of Heaven
